These are paintings of imaginary spaces
I reject the Modernist evolution of painting towards flatness as a cliché which denies the conceptual richness of human perception, we create space in our minds, from the visual clues in our environment. Painting symbolically codifies our experiences of the outside world in a manner which can be shared with others. Whatever ‘importance’ or ‘meaning’ that may mediate what I do gets encapsulated into a painting in the most abstract of ways. It is freshly constructed by the viewer each time it is encountered.
