While my subjects are always reality based, they are manifested in reducing the forms of complicated compositions and structures to simple shapes – obliterating detail in favor of minimalist clarity – and layering sheer tone over tone to create richness and depth of color – whether vivid of transparent hues. My ultimate criteria is that I have processed the emotional responses to my subjects internally and only that becomes my authentic source material and reason to make art. I also think of my work as a diary of locations visited which conveys both a nostalgic memory of the simplicity and restorative effects of nature and a documentary notation of the loss of its innocence through technology and industry.
