The molten iron paintings are inspired by years of sculpting with cast iron. They represent my efforts to poetically reveal the controlled chaos of artistic foundry practice. As Pollock did with latex paint, I do with liquid fire. The gestural strokes and splashes as I persuade the liquid fire on its collision course with the picture plane create unique marks that not only scorch the surface but also burn into the depths of the layered paper often revealing the brightly colored sub-layers below the surface. Each painting successfully captures that creative moment in a dynamic, spontaneous and visually compelling manner by bearing the marks of that which brought its natural beauty into existence.
