My work focuses on the feeling of landscape—inner and outer—combining the perceptions gathered both through direct observation and through sensations that glimmer at the edge of conscious thought and vision.
My canvases often juxtapose wide expanses of color against active, delicate brushwork and “random” marks. By scraping, pouring, glazing and blotting, I strive for an interplay between layers, allowing greater or lesser glimpses of what lies beneath. Generally, a grid element is buried and brought back to varying degrees, echoing the lines within.
