These pieces are about ecstasy! About the joy and wonder and awe inspired by coming upon flowers and plants in nature that are so impossibly odd and beautiful that you feel completely exhilarated by the presence of their existence. I had been contemplating a “tropical rainforest” series for years. Working in two main mediums, oil and vinyl, involving two totally different processes, I always wondered how they would manifest. After a trip to Costa Rica last April, where I was again immersed in an extraordinary tropical rain forest, I felt the time was nearing. Walking in the woods outside my Catskill mountain studio, seeing everything in terms of glitter and vinyl, I knew my choice was made!
